We will keep this page updated with pictures of what learning is happening throughout the year.

As part of our topic, ‘Dignity of the Human Person’ we discussed the question ‘Who are the most important people in our community?’ during which the children were quick to share that everyone is equally important. We used the poem ‘Refugee Blues’ to illustrate how refugees can make many positive contributions to our community and make us stronger. 

R.E - acting out how to be peacemakers in our unit ‘Who am I?’ 

We enjoyed an ‘extra-terrestrial’ morning learning about the planets in the amazing ‘Wonder Dome’ this week! 

What can you do to help your child in Year 5?

• Purchase a watch for your child so that they can read the time throughout the day;
• Practice times tables so that they are fluent in all to 12X12.
• Ensure your child reads every night. They do not need to read to an adult (although this is always beneficial) and they do not need to read for hours at a time - unless they wish to of course! Ten to fifteen minutes every night is enough, as long as they are reading and they have understood what they have read. Your child will have a focus for their reading diary. This is summarising. The children need to write a short and succinct sentence to describe what they have read.
• Allow your child access to a dictionary (including online) so that they can check the meaning of words, which they cannot work out themselves.
• Expose them to different experiences and different places to extend their understanding of the world.
• Homework will be set every Friday and will link to the week’s learning. Spellings are set on a Monday and tested on a Friday, along with timetables.
• Most importantly, make sure they have plenty of sleep and early nights so that they are ready and able to learn.
